Kauppahalli

The Tampere Market Hall as an idyllic and atmospheric oasis of delicacies had long attracted 'Munkkikahvila' to become part of that historic venue.

The Market Hall is a unique experience for both Tampere residents and tourists. For years, we had felt the idea of our own sister café for Pyynikki in the heart of the Market Hall. In the end, the long wait was rewarded and we very boldly opened our new café at Hämeenkatu's end of the Hall on April 8th, 2020, in the middle of the exceptional conditions that had just begun in our country.

Although the epidemic emptied the Market Hall's customers, we studied the operation of the hall and the launch of our new site in the midst of the prevailing silence. We found that our 'munkki' works well as part of the Market Hall's traditional services, as the atmosphere of the hall is its very own world, where both merchants and customers feel good.

In the spring of 2021, our café had to suspend its operations in the Market Hall due to temporarily re-declared exceptional circumstances. Although the Market Hall fell silent again, we all hope for a lively new life in the hall at the end of a long battle against COVID-19.

Munkkikahvila continues its history in Tampere Market Hall, creating new chapters of its story together with other actors in the hall. Our munkkis are also baked in our Kauppahalli café by hand and with exactly the same recipe as they are made in the kitchen of the Pyynikki observation tower; with care and great love. The small but idyllic Munkkikahvila in the Market Hall is a warm and cordial place for everyone to enjoy their own little treat in the middle of the city.
